Prunus avium
Wild Cherry

Small deciduous tree native tree with rounded habit and beautiful red fruit. Long lived tree it is highly prised for its timbers and is often used as an ornamental hedgerow. It is a long lived tree and lives up 200 years. It is distributed throughout the British Isles except Northern Scotland and spreads throughout Europe all the way to the Ural mountains; spreading down to North Eastern Africa and West Asia.


Informal Upright, Slanting, Cascade, Semi-cascade, Literate, Rock-over-root, Clasped-to-rock, Twin-trunk, Group planting, Saikei




In full sun but shade during peak summer.


Water regularly keep soil moist not wet to prevent against root rot. Reduce watering in winter. Do not allow the flowers to get wet or they will rot


Every two weeks after flowering has finished through late summer.

Leaf and Branch Pruning:

Heavy pruning if required after flowering otherwise prune back tips during growing period as necessary.

Re-potting & Growing Medium:

Every second year in spring, using basic bonsai soil.


Wiring can be done in spring-summer, but care must be taken to protect the bark.
